I am currently an Associate Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Music at the University of Dhaka. As an educator, researcher, and performer, I have dedicated my career to advancing the study and practice of music in Bangladesh.
I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music at the University of Dhaka, which provided me with a strong foundation in South Asian musical traditions. Later, I pursued my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with a dissertation titled “Folk Music of Jashore District.” This work has been recognized by national and international research organizations for its depth and cultural significance.
Throughout my academic journey, I have focused on Bengali folk music, musical aesthetics, and the creative expressions of Bengal’s mystic musical personalities. I have written 14 books on musical notation and related topics, with the aim of preserving and documenting the rich musical heritage of Bengal for future generations.
Alongside my academic work, I remain deeply engaged as a performing artist. I regularly perform for Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar (Radio), where I strive to present a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary forms of Bengali music.
Through my research, publications, and performances, I continue to uphold the profound legacy of Bangladeshi music while inspiring and mentoring a new generation of musicians and scholars committed to its study and evolution.
